Weston’s Memorial Day Parade 2012

On Memorial Day, May 28th, the Town’s Parade (organized by the Weston Volunteer Fire Department and the Weston EMS) will be led by the Parade Marshall at 10:45 am. Line-up starts at 9:30 am at the Weston High School. The parade will go down School Road towards Weston Center and end at the Town Hall on Norfield Road. I didn’t believe it until I saw it, but the majority of the Town marches in the parade with one of the many organizations. If your child plays soccer on Saturday mornings with the Weston Soccer Club, there is an opportunity to march with them as well. The Weston Women’s League is also welcoming Westonites to march with them. Maybe next year, Moms in Weston, CT will march together.

Whichever organization your family decides to march with, be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, sunblock, and wheels (strollers or wagons for the little ones). Also be on time to meet your group! Here’s the lineup. The road closes at 10:30 am and step off is at 10:45 am. Some children like to bring candy to hand out to the parade watchers.

Where can you watch the parade? There are no bad spots along School Road. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Parking is available by the schools, public library, Onion Barn, or Weston Center (by the post office when it is closed). Most important of all, have fun!

After the Parade, stop by the Town Hall gazebo for a brief ceremony to honor our veterans and the laying of a ceremonial wreath at the Memorial Stone near the library.

Hot dogs and Cupcakes for everyone at the Norfield Fire Station after the ceremony!

Finish the day with more rides at the Memorial Day Fair (sponsored by the PTO’s of the Hurlbutt Elementary School and the Weston Intermediate School) officially opens at noon and runs through Monday, May 28th from noon to 5 pm.

We’re talking about rides, food, and assorted goodies from Community booths; something for everyone in your family. Really! Our favorite rides are the ferris wheel, dizzy dragon or dinosaur, the gigantic slide, roller coaster, and flying elephants. Rides are spread out on the grassy fields of the Hurlbutt Elementary School. Tickets are $25 for 22 (or $1.25 each) or a sheet of 36 for $40.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day! Thank you to all who serve in the US Armed Forces.
