Horseshoe Crab Tagging – May 26

Saturday, May 26, 2012 – rain or shine
At the Sherwood Island State Park Nature Center and beach
Event starts at 3:30 PM outside the Nature Center
Public is welcome.

The workshop includes: beach walk, educational talk and tag training. Workshop brought to you by Prof. Jennifer Mattei, Associate Professor of Biology at Sacred Heart University, Project Limulus co-director.
Dr. Mattei is heading up a research project that utilizes trained volunteers.

Come learn about horseshoe crabs that mate on our local beaches during May and June. Having existed for over 300 million years, these creatures are commonly called “living fossils.” Despite the length of time they have been around, not much has been known about their habits.

All ages welcome to attend, children must be accompanied by at least one adult.
Wear comfortable clothes and boots. You will get wet!

Cost: Event and program are free. CT State Park car entrance fee is in effect.
