Join local writer and psychotherapist Amanda Geffner for an exciting workshop geared to help participants explore family roots through writing and to playfully uncover family tradition, history and lore. The workshop are being held in collaboration with the Oral History Department of WHS. Participants will be given their own personal journal to write in and take home.   What are the stories of your family? Who are the “characters,” the storytellers, the family-history makers? What journeys have they made and what has been passed on to you? Come join us to explore these themes in writing.
If you wish, make plans to ask those questions that you’ve always wanted to of relatives before we meet. Bring photos or small objects, which will help you to connect to who and what you’re writing of, or simply bring an open heart. No previous writing experience required. Brief readings and optional prompts will be offered to help get the process started. Those already engaged with a particular family-related theme are welcome to continue what they’ve started. Come ready with ideas or come and let your pen surprise you. A significant amount of workshop time will be devoted to in-group writing, followed by the opportunity to share the stories we have written down. Reading our work to one another will be optional and in the spirit of providing resonance, appreciation and enjoyment.
