Leftover Luxuries Event Lands in Westport
High-End Consignment Sale, May 21-24, 2010

(WESTPORT, CT) April 2010 — For those looking to rid themselves of an expensive piece of furniture that just doesn’t fit in any longer or past-season designer clothing that never got worn –there is now a place for it to go. Leftover Luxuries (LL), a high-end consignment sale event, has landed in Westport and wants to help turn these leftovers into another person’s luxuries.
Started in 2009 and based in Charlottesville, VA, Leftover Luxuries is the inspiration of a talented interior designer, Wendi Smith. Wanting to create a venue for her clients to get rid of stuff they no longer wanted and to make room for purchasing new items at affordable prices, Wendi spawned the concept of merging a high-end sale amongst fashionable locals with a first class event. In a nutshell, Leftover Luxuries is bridging the wide gap between auction houses and tag sales. “It could be a lovely leftover desk or an old fur that you longer want,” Smith says, “but it will become a luxury to someone else.”
The first LL sale in the Northeast is being brought here by Westport resident and local business owner, Hannah Whitney Lissette. The sale, May 21-24, will be free to attend and open to the public. You can expect to find everything from Prada shoes to Biedermeier furniture. Consignors will be invited to shop the pre-sale event and get first dibs on everything before it opens up to the public.
All local residents, including merchants, artisans, antique dealers, interior designers, etc., are invited to consign their items for sale. Leftover Luxuries will provide the rented venue space, advertising and all promotional material to help bring in potential buyers. One of the reasons the event has been so attractive is the consignees price their own items and walk away with 60 percent of the sale price. All consigned items need to be pre-approved by a Leftover Luxuries agent.
